The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of self-sufficiency, anxiety levels and achievements in chemistry in the organic chemistry laboratories. The study group comprised 29 pre-service chemistry teachers took organic chemistry laboratory lesson at Hacettepe University, Department of Chemistry Education. In the laboratory applications supported by POE (Prediction-Observation-Explanation) technique students are expected to form links between the knowledge that is taught and pre-constructed knowledge of their own. In this way, the expected positive outcome is the sophisticated learning processes using both theoretical and practical skills developed in the laboratory environments. The study aims to research the effect of the applications prepared based on the POE technique on laboratory applications of Chemistry teacher trainees. A quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group was used in the quantitative dimension of the research. In this research, Organic Chemistry Achievement Test (Önen, Altundağ & Mustafaoğlu, 2015), Chemistry Laboratory Self-Efficacy Scale (Alkan, 2016) and Chemistry Laboratory Anxiety Scale (Azizoğlu & Uzuntiryaki, 2006) were used as data collection tools. Mann Whitney U Test and Wilcoxon Test were used in the analysis of pretest-posttest score comparisons of the experimental group and the control group. On the qualitative side of the research, interviews will be held about the activity related to the applied method with students in the experiment group. In this wise, the effects of Organic Chemistry Laboratory applications supported by the POE technique, on the self-sufficiency, anxiety levels and achievements in Organic Chemistry will be found out and interpreted.
