The aim of this study is to understand the dynamics of the rising authoritarianism trend all over the world, especially after 2010, on the example of Turkey, and to evaluate the causal sequences revealed by different theoretical circles with a holistic approach.
The recently rising authoritarianism trend in Turkey has enriched the regime change and democratization literature. Studies fed from different theoretical sources examine the authoritarianism trend in Turkey through different causal sequences. These different approaches mainly consist of actor-centered approaches that emphasize the conflicts between the state/society, between political powers or among the party elites themselves, and structural-centered studies that emphasize the economic and social processes and include the conflicts between the crises of the dominant accumulation regime and social classes in the analysis. .
Our thesis will evaluate the causal sequences of the explanation levels fed from these two different centers together and present a holistic approach to the regime transformation in Turkey from a political economy perspective.
