Üniversite Öğrencilerinde Affetme, Bitirilmemiş İşler ve Öfke
Özet
This research is a descriptive study that examines the relationship between university students' forgiveness, unfinished business and trait anger. In this study, relations between forgiveness and trait anger and gender have been examined. In addition, there is another issue that has been addressed in the research that injustice, frustration, being deceived, being used, being offenced, helplessness, being not understood, guilt feelings have constantly predicted anger. A total of 464 persons, 107 males and 357 females attending the Hacettepe University Faculty of Education during the 2014-2015 academic year participated in the study. The Heartland Forgiveness Scale (HFS) developed by Thompson, Snyder, Hoffman, Michael, Rasmussen ve Billings (2005) was used to determine the level of forgiveness, Trait Anger Scale developed by Spielberger, Jacobs, Russel ve Crane (1983), three items created by the researcher were used to determine unfinished business of university students in the study. The Personal Information Form (PIF) developed by the researcher was applied to collect information about university students. In the personal information form, it is desirable to give 1-10 points to feelings of injustice, frustration, being deceived, being used, being offenced, helplessness, being not understood, guilt for predicting whether the anger is a secondary feeling. In order to measure similarly unfinished business variables, it was expected that scores of if only, regrets and positive-negative of feelings can not be expressed would be scored between 1-10. Pearson correlation analysis was performed to determine the relationship between forgiveness and trait anger in the context of the study. Independent sample t-test was applicated to understand whether the forgiveness and trait anger differed in terms of gender. Hierarchical regression analysis was used to determine whether feelings of injustice, frustration, being deceived, being used, being offenced, helplessness, being not understood, guilt have constantly predicted anger. As a result of the research, it is understood that the unfinished business variable cannot be measured with three items. Thus, the relationship between unfinished business and forgiveness and trait anger has not been studied. University students' levels of total forgiveness and forgiveness's sub-dimensions which are self-forgiveness, forgiveness of others, forgiveness of situation and trait anger did not differ according to gender. There is a moderately negative relationship between level of general forgiveness and trait anger. While the sub-dimensions of forgiveness of others and forgiveness of situation are in a moderate negative relationship with trait anger, self-forgiveness sub-dimension with trait anger are showed a negatively oriented low relationship. Forgiveness of others, which is one of the self-forgiveness, forgiveness of others and forgiveness of situation subdimensions, has been determined to be the strongest with trait anger. Forgiveness is the sub-dimension that shows the second strong relationship with trait anger. Among the forgiveness sub-dimensions, trait anger and the least relationship showed self-forgiveness. Among the variables that predict the trait anger in university students, there were injustice, being offenced, guilt, being not understood, while it was determined that being used, being deceived, frustration and helplessness are not predicting trait anger. It was noted that the trait anger was predicted by 50% of the total variance by the variables of injustice, being offenced, guilt, and being not understood. It has occurred that the most important predictor of the level of trait anger among university students is the feeling of being subjected to injustice. The findings were discussed in consideration of the literature, suggestions for practitioners and researchers were made.
