The aim of this study is to develop a novel tissue expander based on the poly(acrylamide-co-hydroxyethyl methacrylate) hydrogel, p(AAm-co-HEMA), which iseliminating the problems seen in the current soft tissue expanders. P(AAm-co-HEMA) hydrogel which has desired properties, was put in a silicon shell to reduceand control the swelling rate. The hole on the shell was closed by using poly (ε-caprolactone) (PCL) nanofibrous mat to allow wound healing for approximately inten days. Furthermore, an antibiotic, amoxicillin (AMX) was added into the PCLmatrix and in-vitro release kinetics of AMX from tissue expander were investigated. In this study, hydrogel based tissue expanders were synthesized by free radicalchain polymerization and cross-linking reaction. AAm and HEMA (94.5/5.5, moleratios) were used as monomers whereas N,N’-Methylenebis acrylamide (BIS) andammonium persulphate and (APS)/N,N,N’,N’-Tetramethylenediamine (TEMED)were used as crosslinker and initiator system, respectively.
