SALMOORBEKOV, Orozobek. Actionality İn Kyrgyz, Master Thesis, Ankara, 2022.
This thesis aims to make the classification of the postverbs in Kyrgyz according to the idiomatic model developed by Johanson, by emphasizing the different functions of actionality.
Verbs can have different properties in terms of inherent tense structures and phases. Each verb naturally has its beginning, process and ending phases. Some verbs show a realization style by showing themselves in one of these phases. In one of these phases, there is a limit that must be crossed or a transformation point that must be realized. Each verb has a different boundary to cross or a point of transformation to achieve. For example the verbs which have meaning independently such as otur- ‘to sit’ ( initialtransformative), yaz- ‘to write’ (nontransformative) and kır- ‘to broke’ (finaltransformative) have different actionality transformation points. Apart from these, the postverbal constructions which consist from main verb + auxiliary verb, such as cazıp but- 'to finish write', okup ber- 'to read completely or to finish read' also have different actionality transformation points. Because, as a result of postverbial combinations, are formed a new grammatical categories such as actionality, mood, aspect and tense.
The Kyrgyz languages is a very rich language in terms of postverbial constructions. Apart from independent verbs such as otur- ‘to sit-', ıyla- ‘to cry-', sındır- ‘to break-’ in Kyrgyz language there are postverbial constructions like oynop cat- 'he is playing now', jiynap but- ‘completted tidy', ırgıtıp iy- 'to throw away' also have different actionality transformation points from each other.
This thesis consists of four parts. In the introductory part of the study are explained the subject, purpose and method of the study. In the second part are explained how the concept of actionality and how other researchers have handled the category of actionality and how they classified the verbs in terms of actionality. In the third chapter, is given information about the study of actionality in Turkish languages. In the fourth chapter is given the classification of actionality in Kyrgyz language. Here, in the fourth chapter were examined the functions of 32 postverbs, which were determined by using previous grammatical studies. In the conclusion part, the data collected during the research process was evaluated.
