The purpose of this thesis is to investigate the impact of picture story book reading activities on the language development and social skills of 36-48 month-old children. The effects of activities on children's language development and social skills were investigated using a quasi-experimental approach including pre-test, post-test, and follow-up tests in this study. The study's participants were chosen using a homogenous sampling method. The experimental group included 27 children, and the control group included 28 children. In this study, activities based on picture books about social skills were planned and applied by the researcher. Children Picture Book Assessment Form, which was developed by the researcher, was used to choose the books used in the activities. The study included 50 activities which were applied with the experimental group by the researcher during 50 consecutive days. To assess children’s language development, the researcher applied Turkish Expressive and Receptive Language Test. Furthermore, Preschool Social Skills Evaluation Scale was applied by classroom teachers to asses children’s social skills. The data were analyzed by Mann Whitney U and Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. According to the results of the study, activities applied by the researcher had a statistically significant effect and permanence on children’s language development and social skills.
