In recent years, with the development of technology, acoustics has started to gain importance. In the literature, there are various multilayer acoustic panel designs with sound absorbing and reflective properties using different types of materials for sound insulation purposes.
In this study, multilayered acoustic panels with layers arranged according to Cantor series are designed which are new for literature. First three stages of Cantor series are used with elastic and porous materials. Transfer Matrix Method (TMM), which is an analytical method, is used in the analyses and the sound absorption behavior of the panels is examined for different structural parameters. The results obtained show that acoustic panel designs depending on Cantor series exhibit very good insulation properties and can be used as an alternative to similar designs available in the literature.
In addition to the Cantor series, by using same materials, new and different acoustic panels for the operation in air and water mediums are designed according to the fourth, fifth and sixth stages of the Fibonacci series, and their sound absorption behaviors are examined. The performances of the panels with Cantor and Fibonacci series are compared.
The designed panels are applied on steel material to model submarine coating applications and the response of the surface to acoustic wave is analyzed. As a result, it is shown that designed panels according to Cantor and Fibonacci Series operating in air and water mediums can be used in practical sound isolation applications.
