In this study, it was aimed to evaluate some characteristics of mine rescue training and duties of the employees assigned as mine rescuers in Turkish Hard Coal Enterprise and secondary traumatic stress levels of rescuers participated in the task of rescuing the injured and removing the dead. Employees assigned as mine rescuers in 5 different establishment of Turkish Hard Coal Enterprise formed the universe of this research and it was tried to reach the whole universe. In the study, the data collection form created by researchers and the secondary traumatic stress scale, validity and reliability of which were studied in Turkey, were used. The research is a cross-sectional epidemiological study. A Survey questionnairre was used under observation in the research. The survey participation rate of mine rescuers was 87.2%. Of the mine rescuers, 50.8% participated in the mine rescue tasks. Of the mine rescuers, 36.0% participated the task of rescuing the wounded or removing the dead. There were significant differences between the secondary traumatic stress scale total and sub-dimension scores of the mine rescuers who participated in the task of rescuing the injured or removing the dead, according to their assessment of health status, working order, work department and profession. In addition, according to the conditions based on the secondary traumatic stress scale, it was determined that 11.6% of the mine rescuers who participated in the task of rescuing the wounded and removing the dead could be diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder. When multiple regression analysis was performed, it was determined that assesment of poor health status and being a university graduate or higher increased the secondary traumatic stress score.
