An important part of the classical Turkish literature studies is the translation and analysis. Of course, the reason for this is the quality of the style in the peotic works, the diversity of the material and the artistic power of the poem. Many studies have been carried out in this direction until today, while most of the studies were composed of verse works, prose works were also examined. Our work called Ḥikāye-i Ḫātem-i Ṭay is an example of a prose story. There are other stories written with the frame story technique in this work, which tells about the adventure of Hâtem.
In our study, we introduced the work after mentioning how Hâtem was used in classical Turkish literature in divans, masnavis and collection of biographies. We said that the genre of the work is a prose story and emphhasized that its subject is the adventure of the Arab chracter Hâtem, who is known for his generosity. After giving information about the author and copyist of the work, we examined the story with content features. Work; It is a fictional text with an event, time, cast and place. We have extensively studied the elements of this fictional text. We have includied the summaries of the stories in the contect of the text written with the frame story technique. We showed some of the motifs and literary elements in the story in our work. In the end, we emphasized and language and spelling features of the text and touched on the stylistic features. Notwithstanding , there are Arabic and Persian phrases and words in the work. The purpose of the story is to recommend generosity through Hâtem’s personality and adventure.
The story of Ḫātem-i Ṭay, which is a prose story, is a work that contains a lot of idioms and words from the people’s mouth, and is written simply in a way that the public can understand. Ayyubid, the author of the work, wrote this story by listening to the public. Since the work is handled with the frame story technique, it contains different stories.
