Abstract
This study analyzes the relationship between social media and politics. It evaluates Twitter communication in terms of deliberative and agonistic democracy perspectives.This study tries to evaluate the potentiality of Twitter in respects of communication and interaction within the scope of deliberative and agonistic democracy approaches, andaims at determining the possibility of this potentiality to come true while trying to find out the factors effective in this process. The main claim of this research is that Twittermay have some potentiality to contribute to create a new political space defined by deliberative and agonistic points of views but the realization level of this potentiality islimited. This study focuses on August 10, 2014 presidential election in Turkey. It uses content analysis technique to analyze Twitter communication in the process of election.Deliberative and agonistic democracy perspectives are main sources of content categories used in the analysis.
