Alcohol use disorder which occurs as a result of the interaction of biopsychosocial causes, is a common chronic disease in the society. This research, which aims to reveal whether social work intervention based on group motivational interview, has an effect on the treatment motivation, self-efficacy and remission of individuals with alcohol use disorder, is a quasi-experimental study based on the pretest-posttest model with experimental and control groups. 32 patients, 16 in the experimental group and 16 in the control group, were included in the study. Motivational interviewings were conducted with the 5-session group with the patients in the experimental group, and no intervention was performed for the patients in the control group. In the pre-intervention measurements, the experimental and control group patients had similar sociodemographic, treatment motivation and self-efficacy levels, and the frequency and amount of alcohol use was observed. In the post-intervention measurements, it was found that the treatment motivation and self-efficacy level of the experimental group patients who received social work intervention with the group based on motivational interview increased compared to the control group patients, and the frequency and amount of alcohol use decreased statistically. Research findings show that social work intervention based on motivational interview with the group is effective in increasing the treatment motivation and self-efficacy of patients with alcohol use disorder and decreasing the frequency and amount of alcohol use.
