This study focuses on the question of how Anatolian pop/rock music was situated in social memory in 1960’s and 1970’s. By placing social memory, popular memory, and cultural/communicative memory at the core of the theoretical framework, this thesis aims to trace Anatolian pop/rock in the narratives of memory. The memory narratives collected from the interviewees were analysed based on the theoretical and conceptual framework developed for grasping memory projections of Anatolian pop/rock. Data were collected through fifteen semi-structured in-depth interviews employing the techniques of in-depth interviewing approach. Additional written and verbal resources were utilised to analyse the narratives in detail. In this vein, the study traces socio-political milestones of Turkey through memory narratives of Anatolian pop/rock. The results indicate that Anatolian pop/rock embraces waves of change and transformation in the 1960’s and the 1970’s in Turkey. In this regard, Anatolian pop/rock provides an overarching framework to further evaluate the social realities of Turkey in those years. The results further indicated that Anatolian pop/rock was intertwined with various feelings (e.g., enthusiasm, excitement among others) linked with social memory. To conclude, Anatolian pop/rock demonstrated various aspects of social memory construction by providing a broad understanding of the socio-cultural context it belongs to.
