Abstract
This Ph.D. Dissertation, investigates the utilization of cartography in visual arts, and asserts the idea of ‘’re-production of space’’. The idea of “re-production of space” has been configured over the three differing concepts which are defined by French post-structuralist philosophers. These three concepts are the Production of Space (Lefevbre), Deterritorialization (Delueze and Guattari,) and Heterotopia (Foucault). The “Reproduction
of Space” in visual arts is related to the questioning of “the state of belonging’’ concept in the
framework of human-space relationship in a world of globalization. Art works conveying the theme of “cartographical approaches” transform human sensations and perceptions related with the space concept into visual images by the means of space, and memory concepts. Multiple methods,(from painting to installaiton) based on intervention and
transformation, are being applied in the course of this transformation. In essence, collage technique is being employed in these kinds of artworks since the technique is believed to be the essential means for the visual demonstration of the state of synchronism. In like manner, the idea and visuality of miniature paintings influenced artworks by setting up similarities
between miniature painting and map. On the other hand, site-specific installations exemplify
transforming the perception of space in a physical manner under the framework of reproduction
of space idea. By the means of these performances, an improvement on the communication between the work of art and its audience, via the generation of renewed relationships, is intended.
