Biographical plays can be defined as a genre of literature/art in which the lifes, personalities, dilemmas, conflicts, explanations of the human states of people known by the society are transferred to the theatre texts within the historical timing and from there to stage. The purpose of study entitled “Biographical Plays in Turkish Theatre Between 1980-2000” is to examine the biographical plays determined in the specified period and to determine how the biographical information of the authors and the people whose biographies they tell are used. At this point, the comparative method was used on the study’s to reach concrete informations.
This thesis study consists of four main chapters. The political, social and literary background of the period between 1980-2000 is given in the “First Chapter”. In the “Second Chapter”, the theatre life is between 1980-2000 explained in all details. In the “Third Chapter”, the theoretical framework of biography and biographical play genres is drawn. In the “Fourth Chapter”, the detected works were examined in detail within the comparative method. In the determination of biographical play genres, it is observed that traditional and innovative biographical plays genres predominate, but also metabiograpgical and postbiographical biographical play genres were also encountered.
