Vitreous sanitary ware products have a significant place in our lives. Most of these sanitary ware products in Turkey and in many western countries are generally in white plain color. The colorful and decorated products are mostly with classical or traditional motifs in gold and silver colors. Apart from these, other ceramic industry sectors, such as; ceramic tile and porcelain tableware, are produced in a wide variety of patterns and colors. This study aims to show that artistic works can be done on vitreous china products and thus, the production fields of these products can be developed and new products can be added to the markets. The study is considered to be important since it will contribute to the field in terms of the idea of combining vitreous sanitary ware products and artistic works as well as being a work that has not been done before.
This thesis consists of five chapters. The first chapter of the thesis examines the relationship between ornaments and painting art. The second chapter compiles some artistic approaches in the industrial ceramic product design. Chapter three presents the vitreous sanitary ware products. Chapter four contains practical information about the decoration techniques that can be applied on ceramic sanitary wares. In the 5th chapter, which is the application chapter, painting artworks have been carried out on vitrified surfaces with personal observations.
As a result of the study, new examples and new products that can appeal to the personal tastes of individuals can be introduced by creating a new trend in product design and how this can be demonstrated in artistic forms. Therefore, ceramic sanitary wares, which are an important part of living spaces, have been shown to have more dynamic surfaces that are animated with art and combined with vibrant colors beside the existed white and plain ones.
