ABSTRACT
Hanife, A. An Investigation of the Relationship Between Quality of Life and Physical Activity Level in Individuals with Lymphedema After Gynecological Cancer Surgery and Investigation of the Turkish Reliability and Validity of Gynecological Cancer Lymphedema Questionnaire Hacettepe University Graduate School of Health Sciences, Programme of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation, Doctor of Philosophy Thesis, ANKARA, 2020. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between quality of life and physical activity level in individuals who developed lymphedema after gynecological cancer surgery and to asses the reliability and validity of the Turkish version of the Gynecological Cancer Lymphedema Questionnaire. The study included 60 individuals who had gynecological cancer surgery and had lymphedema in the lower extremity with an average age of 59,15 ± 11,57 years (34-84) as the lymphedema group and 30 individuals underwent gynecoLÖgical cancer surgery, who did not have lymphedema in the lower extremity, with an average age of 55,97 ± 11,25 years (37-79) as the group. Physical activity levels of the lymphedema and none lymphedema groups were evaluated by the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (short form), quality of life Lymph-ICF-LL (Lymphoedema Functioning, Disability And Health Questionnaire Lower Limb), and a statistically significant negative correlation was found between them (p <0,05). Gynecological Cancer Lymphedema Questionnaire (GCLQ) was adapted to Turkish considering the stages of cultural adaptation process. GCLQ was calculated with test-retest reliability Intra Class Corelation (ICC), and internal consistency reliability with Cronbach alpha. The intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) values between GCLQ sub-symptom sections (general edema, numbness, pain, limb edema, infection, physical functionality, total GCLQ score) test and retest scores were 0,780, 0,968, 0,695, 0,945, 0,896, 0,945, 0,947, respectively internal consistency Cronbach's value was 0,928, 0,824, 0,656, 0,429, 0,923 and 0,948 respectively. In the validity analysis of the scale, criter validity was adopted. As a result of the analyzes performed for the validity of the scale, there were statistically significant (p<0,05) positive correlations between skin fold thickness measurements and the total score of the scale, and between the right and left tibial shaft midpoint values (r = 0,336 and r = 0,284) in the lymphedema group.
As a result, it was determined that, in individuals who developed lymphedema after gynecological cancer, there was a moderate negative relationship between quality of life and physical activity level, and GCLQ was a valid and reliable scale to distinguish those with or without lower limb lymphedema in Turkish women.
