In this thesis titled ‘The Lost Uniqueness of the Common Object’, breaking points (wars, discoveries, modern and technological developments) that societies have experienced from the past to the present and the effects of social processes created by these breaking points on art are discussed. The direct effects of the chaos situation experienced by society and the micro-level individual on the individual were focused on. The object within this influence is one of the concepts of these processes that has experienced the most change.
There are a number of developments that make urbanization mandatory in a globalized world. Fordist production, sparked by industrialization and dominated for a certain period of time, makes the city a center of income. These reasons drag society and therefore art and artists into various situations of expressions. It becomes a kind of common space between cities, societies and powers and the image of thecity, in general meaning, becomes the most powerful tool of manipulation in the mind of the individual. The image of the city, the common object of this work, is taken as the main subject of the thesis. In the light of the periods, for example, the changing view of the common object handled in the second chapter and the community-individual – object assessment of the first and second world wars were made and supported by projects made in this context. In this study, the relationship between society and object was examined by taking into account the common object perception created by social problems and the common object perception created by social problems and on the other hand, the object-individual relationship is dealt with through the formation of the ready object in art and the process of change of the object. At the same time, the object-individual relationship, which examines the evolving and changing meaning and formal aspects of the concept of object over time, addresses the individual’s turning points through the cities in which individuals lived or are forced tol ive. These turning points, on the other hand, are examined with the projects of the applications discussed in the third section and examples of the pictures made. In this projects, social perception of uniqueness on object, destruction and lost of cultures, habits and traditions in this perception are discussed.
