Turgut E., Research of Sociodemographic and Clinical Features in Patients with Opioid Use Disorder, Hacettepe University, Department of Psychiatry, Dissertation Thesis, Ankara, 2019. Substance use disorder, is a chronic and recurrent disorder resulting from changes in the brain due to substance use, characterized by constantly being busy with substance use, difficulty in seeking and using substance in a compulsive way, the difficulty in limiting the substance use and negative affect such as depression, dysphoria, anxiety, irritability occuring when access to the substance is prevented. In patients treated for opioid use disorder, basic conditions such as medical conditions, employment status, legal problems, family or social relations, mental health symptoms, substance use frequency and polysubstance use may help to understand the main risk factors and protective factors associated with treatment. The aim of this study is to find the sociodemographic and clinical features predicting the compliance to treatment in patients with opioid use disorder. The study included 83 patients aged 18 years and older who admitted to the outpatient clinic due to opioid use disorder and planned to be treated with extended-release naltrexone implant. The patients were evaluated for sociodemographic characteristics of their families and their own, their substance use characteristics, disease and treatment history, addiction profiles, mental capacities, depression, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and other comorbidities. Results suggest that the dependency severity, anxiety levels and the duration of the index opioid use period before admitting for treatment of the individuals with opioid use disorder positively predict compliance to treatment while the motivation levels and the presence of hostility symptoms negatively predict the compliance to treatment. The results of the study indicate the importance of conducting multidimensional evaluations in terms of continuity of treatment of individuals with diagnosis of opioid use disorder, determining risk factors and protective factors, and being more careful in the treatment of patients with hostile symptoms and high motivation level.
