Dictyostelium Discoideum’da Spontan Mutasyonların Hızı, Moleküler Spektrumu ve Sonuçları
Özet
In this study, the method performed with a model organism Dictyostelium discoideum. The study aims to examine whether the results are in accordance with the Drake’s rule and genetic drift barrier hypothesis and to analyze and discuss the genetic mechanisms that cause mutations. For this purpose, the genomes of thirteen randomly chosen MA lines have been sequenced by using next generation sequencing method. The mutation rate for nuclear DNA yielded 0.89x10-11 per site per generation. The estimated mutation rate is the lowest for any eukaryotes. According to the results, the estimated mutation rate is in accordance with the genetic drift hypothesis. In conclusion, it can be argued that low mutation rate is an adaptation to maintain genome in extremely mutagenic natural environment and unusual life cycle.
