Abstract
Bacterial vaginosis (BV) is the most common vaginit type in fertile age. Gardnerella. vaginalis and various anaerobic and facultative anaerobic bacteria cause this vaginit. In this infection, clue cell is the most important cytological finding. Clue cell is a squamous epithelial cell which is covered by cocci and coccibacilli. Our aim is to determine how bacteria adhere to epithelial cell and are whether invade the cytoplasm or not in clue cell. In this study, cervicovaginal smears were obtained from 200 patients and BV positive 7 (%3.5) patients were chosen for study group. BV was diagnosed in Papanicolaou stained smears by using cytologic criterias. In study group, every patient (%100) had clue cell and free cocci however non of them (%0) had lactobacilli and two of them (%28.57) had rare polimorfo nuclear leukocytes (PMNLs). By statistical analysis, there was a significant relation between BV and presence of clue cell and free cocci.
