Üç-Boyutlu Çok-Kullanıcılı Sanal Ortamlarda Harita Kullanımının Görev Tamamlama Süresine Etkisi
Abstract
The current study aims to investigate the effect of maps used as a tool of navigation on the navigation efficiency in three-dimensional multi-user virtual environments. To this end, the study benefited from the ecological world which was available in the environment of Quest Atlantis and included Active Worlds multi-user virtual environment.
The participants were 60 student teachers of the department of Computer Science and Instructional Technology at Atatürk University in the academic year of 2011-2012. The pilot study included 12 participants, and the main study included 48 participants. 3 groups were formed in the study based on the true experimental research design: 2 experimental groups and 1 control group. In the control group, Coordinate System (CS), available on the status bar and in the three-dimensional multi-user virtual environment, was used. On the other hand, in the experimental groups, two methods were used: the map-on-screen method (MOS), which is available in the three-dimensional multi-user virtual environment and indicates users’ point instantly, and the map-on-paper method (MOP), which includes the view-in-view image of this environment. Before the study was conducted, the participants completed the "Demographic Questionnaire" and "Spatial Visualization Test".
