Maternal Serum ve Anne Sütünün Leptin ve Ghrelin Düzeyi ile Beslenme Durumu Arasındaki Ilişkinin Araştırılması
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between leptin and ghrelin levels in maternal serum and breast milk with some anthropometric measurements belonging to infant and mother, biochemical findings and food consumption status. The study was conducted with 47, 19-35 years old voluntary mother, who are registered in community health centers of Erzurum city center, gave birth in time, and were within the 1st month of lactation period, and their infants. General characteristics, nutritional habits, food consumption, of mothers and general features of infants were determined by using questionnaire form. Some anthropometric measurements, and biochemical analysis of mothers (leptin, ghrelin, insulin, lipid profile etc.), and anthropometric measurements of infants were performed. It was determined that ghrelin level of maternal serum was 1927.6±1182.4 pg/mL in average, and ghrelin level of breast milk was 3413.9±2880.3 pg/mL. Leptin level of maternal serum was 12.0±9.0 ng/mL, and leptin level of breast milk was 1.5±0.5 ng/mL. While there was a positive significant correlation between leptin level of breast milk and leptin level of maternal serum (p<0.01), no significant correlation was found between ghrelin levels of breast milk and maternal serum (p>0.05). A positive correlation was determined between leptin levels of maternal serum and breast milk and maternal BMI (p<0.01). While a negative significant correlation was found between ghrelin level of breast milk and maternal BMI (p<0.01), no significant correlation was found between ghrelin level of maternal serum and maternal BMI (p>0.05). While there was no significant correlation between leptin level of breast milk and body weight of infants (p>0.05), a negative significant correlation was determined between ghrelin level of breast milk and body weight of infants (p<0.05). There was a positive correlation was determined between leptin levels of the maternal serum and energy intake also a positive relation was found leptin levels of the breast milk and sucrose consumption of mothers (p>0.05). No significant relation was found between ghrelin levels of the maternal serum and breast milk and energy and nutrient intake (p>0.05). Consequently, there was a relation between leptin levels of maternal serum and breast milk and ghrelin level of breast milk with nutritional status of mother. Further studies are required in order to reveal the relation between leptin and ghrelin levels of maternal serum and breast milk and nutritional status of infant.
