Tek Cihazda Birleştirilen Infüzyon ve Beslenme Pompasının Tasarımı ve Klinikte Uygulanması
Abstract
Purpose of the research is to design a prototype of a device, which combines the intravenous infusion pump and feeding pump, and to get it evaluated
by nurses. At the first stage of the research, the characteristics of patients which the
conventional pumps are used and the opinions of the nurses on these pumps are
obtained. First stage has been carried out with 120 patients having intravenous
infusion support and 40 patients having enteral infusion support in the Adult Hospital
of the Faculty of Medicine of University of Hacettepe. At the second stage of the
research the prototype of the pump has been designed and produced. At the third
stage, the opinions of the specialist engineer and 7 nurses are obtained. “Data Forms
for the Patients, Intravenous Infusion and Feeding Pumps used on” were used at the
first stage. In order to obtain the opinions of the nurses in first and third stages, “The
Form for Opinions of the Nurses Using the Intravenous and Enteral Pumps in
Clinics” was used. In our study, it is observed that the rate of complication
development in intravenous treatment is increased as the infusion duration and fluid
amount increases. It is found that the rate of pump usage in the intensive care unit
(avg. 2) is higher than service units (avg. 1,1) (p<0,05). As for the infusion pumps in
the clinics, the nurses had stated that they have problems mostly with the carriage of
the device (%67,5) and the battery life (%57,5). As for the enteral pumps, it is
observed that the patients are mostly fed by nasogastric way (%72,5) and it is found
that the patients fed nasogastrically have more complications than gastrostomy
(p<0,05). As for the enteral pumps in clinics, nurses have problems mostly with
battery life (%52,5) and the training about the pump (%40). The prototype produced
in this study is very portable and can be set easily. Nurses have stated positive
opinions about the prototype. With the study, it is proposed not only patient care but
also to increase the activities of nurses in health services with efforts to design the
medical devices.
