Abstract
This thesis investigates the Russian pilgrimage journeys to Jerusalem and its environs within the context of building the cultural and religious ties relating Russia with this region and with the 19th century, the roles of Russian pilgrims of promoting the communication lines in constituting Russia s Pan-Orthodox policies towards the Orthodox peoples living in the Eastern Mediterranean region. Within this framework, this study aims to present the instrumental roles of the travels of Russian pilgrims to the Holy Land in promoting Russian imperial interests and the effects of this situation to the political and social relations of the Ottoman State and Imperial Russia.
