With this study, the social and economic structure of the island of Chios was occupied by the Ottoman Empire in 1566, and stayed under the rule of the Ottoman Empire for about three and a half centuries, have been examined. In this thesis, the socio- economic history of the island have been analyzed based on both Ottoman and Greek archival sources. From the Ottoman archival sources, issues of local public administration, taxation, legal and assessments of social life have been tried to put forward, while from the matters archives of the Greek Community, the community structure, internal mechanism of this structure and its effects on local government and relations with local people s socio-economic lifes were examined. In our study, we tried to make a comparative historical analysis based on both archives.
