There have been many compilations and researches on traditional folk music during and after the Republican period. These researches has firstly started in 1915 and 1916, and articles have been written on “Folk Music” and “Compilation of folk melodies”. Then, questionnaire studies have been conducted on the compilation of folk music between 1920 and 1922. Afterwards, first folklore compilations and research trips in turkey have been done by “Darü-l Elhan” and 850 folk songs have been published in 14 books. As a result of the compilation studies from “Darü-l Elhan” to these days, Turkish Folk Music note archive of Radio and Television Institution of Turkey serves with approximately 6000 folk songs.
Some folk songs in the Turkish Folk Music Archive of the Radio and Television Instutition of Turkey have been changed due to various reasons during the compilation and notation stage. These changes, which were made in a melodic, rhythmic and verbal way, led to the deterioration of the local perform that the source person quoted in the recording.
This research aims to detect that differences between compiling records in the archive of Radio and Television Institution of Turkey and notes of records occurring during the compilation and notation stage, to bring out the factors that lead to these differences, to note the records again from the source person and to contribute to the first hand transfer to next generations by basing on Âşık Veysel Şatıroğlu example.
