Abstract

This study analyzes the bibliometric features of the citations of master’s and doctoral dissertations completed at the Department of Information Management of Hacettepe University. Major findings of the study are as follows: The average number of dissertations completed at the Department per year was four. The most frequently used research method in the dissertations was survey. University libraries, public libraries, reading habits and user studies were the most frequently studied topics. Nilüfer Tuncer, İrfan Çakın and Yaşar Tonta were the advisors of 46% of all dissertations. Nilüfer Tuncer also served as a jury member most frequently. Monographs received 42% of all citations. On the other hand, journals, electronic publications, dissertations and other publications, such as unpublished manuscripts, received 39%, 12%, 4% and 3% of all citations, respectively. Türk Kütüphaneciliği (Turkish Librarianship), Resmî Gazete (Official Gazette), Journal of the American Society for Information Science & Technology, Library Trends and College & Research Libraries were among the most frequently cited journals. Yaşar Tonta was the most cited author. The mean half-life of sources cited in dissertations was 8.4 years.
