Diverse photovoltaic systems emerged as a result of investments to solar energy systems and research-development activities. Most of those systems are more suitable for field-usage. Today, it is seen through the investments to solar energy systems that, there is also a need of photovoltaic system investments in city centers where electricity consumption is more intensive. Accordingly, there is a need of a new solar panel design by which the electricity need can be satisfied in a more productive and cost-efficient way.
Luminescent Solar Concentrator systems have been proposed as a photovoltaic system which is integrated in the building, as in this way, less solar cells are used, the design can be made with cheap optical materials and there is no need of a tracking system.
In this thesis, the most efficient panel design for three different dimensions (10x10 cm2, 30x30 cm2, 50x50 cm2) has been realized by using modeling and simulation tools. During these designs, the relationship between the parameters such as thickness, paint characteristics and quantity, mirror configuration of the Luminescent Solar Concentrator systems and the optical efficiency of the device were examined and optimization studies were performed for each dimension. As a result of these studies, optical efficiency of 14% for 10x10 cm2 devices, 14.2% for 30x30 cm2 devices and 13.7% for 50x50 cm2 devices were achieved.
