Laboratories performing GMO analysis are important components of the monitoring system and the national accreditation system. The most important way of ensuring and maintaining the quality of the experiments, calibration activities performed at these institutions at national and international level is to obtain successful results from proficiency tests and inter-laboratory comparison (PT / ILC) programs. In this way, they will be able to provide their adequacy of the services they offer.
In this study, development of a proficiency test kit for the detection of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) by using MON87701 soybean and MIR604 maize events is aimed to establish a system that will be enable of using this test material in all the accredited laboratories performing GMO analysis in accordance with TS EN ISO / IEC 17043 standard.
Thus, PT/ILC process was managed by preparation of proficiency test material, optimization of DNA extraction, single laboratory GMO analysis verification studies and interlaboratory comparison organization. Invitation letters were sent to 40 laboratories for the interlaboratory comparison and a total of 10 participant laboratories' qualitative and quantitative analysis outputs were reported.
There was no PT/ ILC program server for GMO analysis in Turkey before the thesis. The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry National Food Reference Laboratory has started to produce proficiency test which is related to screening analysis for GM feed. Prior to this period, all GMO analysis laboratories had dependencies on other countries.
With this study;
• The PT/ILC test kit and related analysis methods were developed,
• The developed PT/ILC test kit in GMO analysis laboratories was implemented
• In accordance with the international standard TS EN ISO/IEC 17043, a systematic was developed and implemented to provide accredited PT/ILC testing services.
This study is the first inter laboratory work to be organized with the PT/ILC kit in Turkey under the international standard TS EN ISO / IEC 17043 and with this study we aimed that a consensus about methodology between laboratories, obtaining standard results. With this study, a new process, system and service were provided by the development and implementation of PT/ILC test.
