Göksu, Ö. Determination of Gender Role Attitudes and Non-Functional Attitudes of the Women Who Have a Plastic Surgery. Hacettepe University, Graduate School of Health Sciences, Gynecology and Obstetrics Nursing Program Master of Science Thesis, Ankara, 2019. This study has been planned in order to determinate of gender role attitudes and non-functional attitudes of the women who have a plastic surgery. This research has been conducted on 140 women who have a plastic surgery at the Department of the Plastic and the Reconstructive Surgery of the Adult’s Hospital of Hacettepe University in Ankara on May 21th – December 31st 2018. Descriptive Form, Gender Role Attitudes Scale and Non-Functional Attitudes Scale are used for Data Collect. It has been determined that the mean age of the sample is 32.57 ± 11.42 and 53.57% have university or higher education. It has been determined that majority of the women has been applied to hospital with their own decision for aesthetic because of a subsequently emerged reason. 64.29% of women have stated that this situation has affected their daily lives. 68.73% of women have stated that the reactions from outside are in the form of ridicule / laughing. In the study, total point average of Gender Role Attitudes Scale of Women is 167.68±18.58 and the point average of Non-Functional Attitudes Scale is 203.54±33.46. It has been determined that the higher the education level, the more egalitarian attitude in context of the gender role has been. In addition, it has been determined that the women who apply hospital for aesthetic have more egalitarian attitude than women who apply for a disease. There is a positive relation between Gender Role Attitudes Scale and Non-Functional Attitudes Scale. It is seen that women who have an egalitarian attitude feel the need for approval and have a perfectionist attitude, in particular. It is seen that women are affected by different factors during the application process to the plastic surgery and may have non-functional beliefs. For this reason, a comprehensive biopsychosocial assessment and the nursing care are recommended for women who apply for plastic and cosmetic surgery during the preoperative period.
