The aim of this research is to make early childhood teachers and preservice
teachers nominate gifted children as candidates in their classrooms. For this aim,
Gifted Children Nomination Training Programme (ÜYÇAGEP) was developed and
its effectiveness was evaluated. The research was planned with a quasiexperimental design with pretest-posttest control groups. It was conducted with 20
childhood teachers and 20 preservice teachers in Edirne selected by criteria
sampling method. The effectiveness of ÜYÇAGEP was evaluated with two methods.
First method was conducted by a Gifted Children Perception Scale (ÜYÇALÖ) as
pretest, posttest and follow-up test. Second method was conducted by asking 40
participants to nominate children whom they think are gifted. In order to measure
intelligence, creativity and motivation levels of the 54 children nominated by 40
participants; Stanford Binet Intelligence Scales, Evaluation of Potential Creativity
Test (EPoC), and Motivational Scale for the Preschool Children tests were utilized.
Data were analyzed by Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test, Mann-Whitney U Test and
Friedman Test. As a result, a significant difference was found in results achieved
from ÜYÇALO and its subbranches between participants who had or hadn't received
ÜYÇAGEP. Moreover, between the participants a significant difference was
observed in candidate children's Stanford Binet Intelligence Scales results. But,
between the participants no major difference in scores could be observed from the
EPoC results of the candidate children. In a similar manner, between the candidate
children nominated by participants no significant difference was observed in test
scores of Motivational Scale for the Preschool Children test.
