By keeping customer satisfaction in the front, managements which aim to use the sources efficiently and reduce mistakes prefer to use management systems such as lean manufacturing and six sigma in today’s market conditions where rivalry is very common. The lean six sigma philosophy, based on lean manufacturing and six sigma approaches and using the strengths of these two systems together to support each other, is another recently used management system.
The main purpose of this study is to investigate the applicability of the Lean Six Sigma philosophy in the furniture industry. The theoretical framework of the study was established by scanning the literature. Thus, lean manufacturing, six sigma and lean six sigma approaches are examined conceptually separately. The Lean Six Sigma DMAIC (define, measure, analysis, improvement, control) model and tools are explained. Then the implementation phase of the study, which includes the research section, was started. The research involves the determination and analysis of the applicability of the Six Sigma methodology in the furniture industry.During the research phase of the study, the survey method was used and interviews were provided with the companies active in the furniture industry. The first part of the survey consisted of questions measuring demographic characteristics. The second part of the survey consists of questions related to six sigma activities. In the light of the data obtained from the survey conducted with the managements, the relationship of the scale scores was analyzed with Pearson correlation test and the difference between scale scores and demographicvariables was analyzed in the ANOVA tests. The results of Bartlett and KMO test were found to be meaningful in order to determine the suitability of the scale for factor analysis and it was determined that it consisted of only one factor and the level of reliability was very high.
Based on the data generated within the scope of the research, some suggestions have been made by making evaluations and inferences about the feasibility of lean six sigma methodology in the furniture industry. Accordingly, it was determined that the participants had a positive opinion about the implementation of lean six sigma activities and it was concluded that the Lean Six Sigma approach could be applied in the furniture industry.
