This descriptive study was aimed to determine psychosocial adaptation to pregnancy and affecting factors in pregnant women with gestational diabetes (GDM). The study was conducted with 64 pregnant women with GDM and 64 healthy pregnant women who applied to Hacettepe University Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology Pregnancy Outpatient Clinic and Department of Perinatology between October 15, 2015 and March 7, 2016. Healthy Pregnancy Diagnosis Form, Pregnant Women with Gestational Diabetes Diagnosis Form, Prenatal Self-Evaluation Questionnaire (PSEQ) and Stress Coping Style Questionnaire (SCSQ) were used to collect the data. Diagnosis forms were filled out face-to-face by the researcher. Pregnant women filled out the questionnaires. Numbers, percentage, mean, independent samples t-test, Kruskall Wallis test, Mann-Whitney U test, One Way Anova test, Pearson's Moment Correlation Analysis and Logistic Regression Analyses were used to analyze the data. It was found that the level of psychosocial adaptation to pregnancy in pregnant women with GDM were found lower than that of healthy pregnant women in accordance with total PSEQ score and its sub dimensions score (p<0.05). It was determined that age, educational level, working status, duration of marriage, pre-pregnancy body mass index, pregnancy planning status, gravida, gestational week and the number of health control in pregnancy did not affect the psychosocial adaptation to pregnancy in pregnant women with GDM. According to logistic regression analyses it was found that psychosocial adaptation to pregnancy of healthy pregnant women were higher than that of pregnant women with GDM; the psychosocial adaptation of smokers were found to be lower (p<0,05). It was determined that there was a moderate negative relationship between “desperate approach” the sub dimension of SCSQ and the average of total PSEQ score in pregnant women with GDM (p<0,05). According to the study results, nurses are recommended to develop multifaceted nursing care model involving physical and psychosocial problems and provide care in the direction of this model in order to increase the psychosocial adaptation to pregnancy of pregnant women with GDM .
