Between 1919-1925, the thesis about Islamization of the Anatolian Greeks who did not want to /could not go or left behind was written based on the stories and narration of the people who experienced the period and the stories abstracted from their memories. In this work leading to the power of micro narration rather than macro narration, in the context of oral history studies, without generalizing, the approach of memories hidden in the minds of people become important.
In this study aimed at listening to the people whose stories were conveyed, the narrative unity that emerged as the result of interviews with 6 people was aimed to comprehend remembering and forgetting together. Thesis field survey conducted mainly in Ankara and İzmir. Some of the interviewers were the children of who experienced the livings and the others were the grandchildren. In the study it was historically analyzed that context of nation-state and homogeneous society structure lead to forced migration, in addition, immigration, staying, Islamization, Assimilation and Culturalization experiences were traced descriptively in the context of before, during and after the "population exchange”.
In the study, in accordance with rising voices from the fields, attention has been paid to how to stories were hidden for years by social pressure, the process of new identity and Islamization, the period of searching family stories and confrontation with them, reckoning with history and finally the change of the field subjects over time. The power and political sides of remembering took its place in the thesis. The assimilation and transculturation processes experienced by the families over the transmitted stories were also included in the analysis. Apparently, those who take place in the memories of the subjects of the field are strong enough to fill vacant places in the transmitted history.
