The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of perceived parental acceptance or rejection in childhood of pregnant women in the 2nd and 3rd trimesters on the level of attachment to their babies in the prenatal period and to examine the role of mindful awareness in this relationship. The study group consisted of 306 pregnant participants who applied to the Gynecology and Obstetrics, Pregnancy and Perinatology Polyclinics of Samsun Ondokuz Mayıs University Health Application and Research Center. The data of the study were collected using the Demographic Information Form, Prenatal Attachment Scale, Adult Parental Acceptance Rejection Scale-Mother/Father Short Form and Mindful Awareness Scale. The research was designed in accordance with the relational screening and mediation model in quantitative research methods. Parametric tests were used in the analysis of the data and One-Way ANOVA test was used in the analyses. Pearson Correlation coefficient was used to determine the relationship between scale scores. Path analysis was used to examine the role of mindful awareness in the relationship between prenatal attachment and perception of parental acceptance-rejection. According to the findings obtained from the research, It was seen that both maternal and paternal rejection
directly affected prenatal attachment, mindful awareness had an effect on prenatal attachment, and parental rejection had an effect on mindful awareness. However, it was concluded that mindful awareness did not play a role in the relationship between prenatal attachment and parental rejection. In other words, while parental rejection directly affected prenatal attachment, the role of mindful awareness was found to
eliminate this effect. The research findings were discussed, interpreted and suggestions were made in line with the literature.
