Trombone; a brass instrument used in many different music varities, is played by
a mouthpiece that is chosen by the physical quality of each person. As a result of
devoloping experience within long years of playing inthe field, individuals need
different equipments for different types of music. The variance in this equipments
has an influence on the performer's habits while performing. Because of this,
some of the modern-day trombone artists feels the necessity to change
mouthpiece rim via which the intercourse with the lips are provided according to
their needs.
As a proprietary mouthpiece rim provides a cozy performance acoording to the
lip structre of the player it also has an effect on the obtained tone colour. The
aspired tone color can shift through different materials let the performer reach to
fruition with different rims without changing mouthpiece he is accustomed to use
and that corresponds his need on stage.
In this work, the effect of the replaceable rims, made of brass, stainless steel,
chlorophora excels wood and plexiglass, to the obtained sound and the effect of
using different materials to the sound color in different types of music and
meanwhile the comfort of the performer are analyzed via tests and structured
interviews made by some experts in the field.
