The transmission of experiences and behaviors from past generations to the next,
hereditary family traumas, and childhood traumas can have negative physical or emotional
impacts on individuals, leading to symptoms such as fear, illness, anxiety, and stress
disorders.
The aim of this thesis is to explore various psychological and physiological disorders based
on my own family and their stories. The genogram technique was used in this process. The
genogram technique is a method used as a tool for assessment and intervention in clinical
settings to understand family patterns. It involves depicting the medical history,
relationships, behaviors, beliefs, education, and cultural and social aspects of the family
system across generations through different symbols in a standardized genogram format. In
addition to biological and legal family members, genograms also include friends and social
networks that are important to the individual. Along with present relationships, past
relationships that hold a special place in the individual's heart and provide inspiration and
hope during difficult times can also be included in the genogram. In a clinical context, the
genogram technique is used for assessment and treatment purposes, but within the context
of visual arts and this thesis, it has served as a tool for mapping and analyzing the lived
stories I have experienced, giving these personal narratives an objective structure.
Research has been conducted on artworks focusing on the reflections of the genogram
technique in the context of visual arts. Through this technique, the knowledge, documents,
and stories obtained in the search for "self-healing" have been visualized using different
mediums. A form of artistic documentation has been created from these data, transforming
them into a new archive to honor my ancestors.
