Migration to Germany began in the 1960s as a result of the labour agreements signed between Turkey and Germany. Within the framework of these agreements, labour migration from Turkey to Germany gained momentum and many Turkish workers settled in Germany during this period. In this context, there were significant changes in German politics, social life and economy over time. The fact that Turkish immigrants have settled permanently in Germany, especially since the 1980s, and that they have moved from the position of employees to the position of employers since the 2000s are the main factors behind these changes. In addition, conflicts, contradictions and marginalisation in relation to Turks living in Germany have become noticeable in this process, which is also reflected in art. Although literature plays an important role in this context, caricature can also be emphasised as an important element. In the accompanying study, an attempt is made to emphasise the reflection of migration on the caricatures and to provide a panorama of Turkish migrants in particular. In order to get to the heart of this topic and not go beyond the scope of this thesis, the theories associated with migration will be discussed first and an attempt will be made to draw reference points to Turkish migrants. In addition, the historical course of Turkish migration is discussed in connection with the reflection on art.
In the practical part, the historical development of Turkish migration in Europe and especially in Germany was analysed through the reflection of caricatures and evaluated with migration theories. The aim of this study is to analyse the caricatures chronologically and to show which caricatures are primarily associated with Turkish immigrants. How migration is portrayed in caricatures that inspire laughter or reflect exaggeratedly should open up a new perspective.
