Interior architecture and environmental design education is a significant discipline
aiming to equip students with skills in the aesthetic and functional design of interior
spaces. This education provides students with a broad perspective on the design
and organization of spaces.
In different universities and faculties offering Interior Architecture and Environmental
Design and Interior Architecture programs in Turkey, the investigation of the
presence, location, and content of the drawing lessons in the curriculum constitutes
the scope of this study. The primary goal is to highlight the place, impact, and
importance of the drawing lessons in these disciplines. Additionally, the discussion
of the role of drawing lessons learning outcomes in terms of professional practices
is also intended.
This study aims to examine the existence of drawing lessons and its place in the
curriculum among faculties and interior architecture departments in universities in
Turkey. Furthermore, it seeks to understand how this course is perceived by
faculties and departments and aims to comprehend its role in interior architecture
education.
In the introduction section of the study, the definition of drawing, its history, and its
relationship with sketching are provided. This section attempts to establish a
foundation for the other parts of the study by describing the scope of drawing and
providing information on its definition, place in the historical process, relationship
with sketching, and education in interior architecture and environmental design
before examining the place of drawing lessons.
The second part of the study presents literature findings related to interior
architecture and environmental design/interior architecture education worldwide and in Turkey. It discusses the relationship between fine arts and education, revealing
how the drawing lessons have evolved in this educational process. This section
aims to understand the historical development of interior architecture and
environmental design education and its parallel structure with art education,
providing insight into the place of drawing lessons in this educational system.
The following section details the research methodology and findings. It discusses
the importance of drawing lessons in Interior Architecture and Environmental Design
and Interior Architecture education, presenting findings related to its presence and
position in the curriculum. These findings constitute the fundamental results of this
research covering the entire country of Turkey.
