Abstract

DUMAN, Nihan Adile. Past Tense in Bashkir, Master Thesis, Ankara, 2024.

The subject of this study is the time and appearance functions of the simple and unified past tense markers found in Bashkir (-NĔ, -GAn, -A/-y inĕ). Since the past tense markers in Bashkir have both appearance and time functions, it is important to determine not only their temporal functions, but also their appearance functions.

Turkish in our study, the functions of Decrement and appearance of past tense markers in Bashkir in basic sentences were revealed and it was aimed to describe the typological and functional differences between Bashkir and Turkish Turkish on the basis of this category. In this comparison, Lars Johanson's appearance-time (aspectotempus) model is based.

In the first part of the thesis, the subject and scope, purpose, methods and limitations are discussed. In the second part, general information about Bashkirs and Bashkir is discussed, in the third part, theoretical information about the concepts of appearance and time is discussed, while in the fourth part, past tense markers in Bashkir are discussed with examples from a formal and functional point of view.
