In this study, the structuralist analysis of Bekir Kara’s published and unpublished theatrical works is included. In order to evaluate Kara’s theatrical works in a broad perspective, the Turkish Cypriot history, understanding of theater and the promotion of his plays have been clarified. In this direction, thirty-two plays of Kara have been examined and it has been determined that the political and social environment in which he is present reflects his theaters.
Situations such as Bloody Christmas event that took place in Cyprus in 1963, the British occupation of Cyprus, the actions of the EOKA organization, the forced migration of the Turkish Cypriots, the Turkish Cypriot Peace Operation in 1974 took place as subjects in Kara’s theater works and portrayed nationalist figures has revealed. Kara has been in an important position as the socialist voice of Cyprus in line with what society offers her.
Contrary to popular belief, Kara also wrote plays with individual content. Especially after the 2000’s, with the rise of Cyprus from the war environment and rose to a welfare level, economic problems, children growing up apart from their families, family dynamics, degenerating bureaucracy, and subjects that encourage young people to education took place in Kara’s plays.
Bekir Kara has been intensely interested in the theater genre. He both recorded and directed play. Regions He provided the continuity of the Turkish Cypriot theater by educating many people in the field of theater and the perspective of the art environment with his theater activities in the Güzelyurt region.
