Common occupational health and safety unit (COHSU) is defined as the unit founded by public institutions, organized industrial districts or private companies obeying Turkish Trade Act, which is founded to provide occupational health and safety services for the workplaces by having adequate equipment and personnel and is authorized by the government. This study was aimed to evaluate the OHS knowledge status of both counterparts accepting to participate the study, those providing OHS in COHSUs among 253 COHSUs in all around Turkey and those receiving OHS from these COHSUs. This descriptive study was carried out by OHS professionals working at 37 COHSUs and 71 workplaces which are provided OHS by these COHSUs. The knowledge status of participants was evaluated under following headings: services related to medical conditions, workplace environment, training, management, research and informing and legal documents. Data from each participant group was collected via questionnaires. The results of this study revealed that while 85.4% of the employer deputies were aware of training services, 55.9% of them did not know about management services. While 92.2% of employee representatives knew about on workplace services, 45.7% were not aware of training services. It was also found that while 66.3% of executive managers did not know about legal documents, 27% of occupational safety experts were not aware of management services, 45.5% of occupational physicians were not cognisant of research and information services and 27.9% of other medical staff were not informed about medical services. It was concluded that, it would be beneficiary to assign compulsory OHS training for employers and executive managers by legislation, to adjust compulsory OHS training for employee representatives, occupational physicians and occupational safety experts according to risk class of the workplace and sector itself and to make occupational group-sector assignments.
