C-C and C-O formation reactions in the presence of transition metal catalysts are efficiently carried out in the presence of transition metal-based organometallic complexes. In recent years, gold-based transition metal complexes decorated with highly σ-donating ligands such as phosphine and N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) have been used as efficient catalysts for organic conversion reactions. Although homogeneous gold catalysts have shown high performance in alkyne hydration, alkyne amidation and ringing reactions, these catalysts are difficult to remove and reuse after the reaction. In addition, cost increases due to diminishing transition metal reserves worldwide necessitate the effective use of these catalysts. The development of new catalytic protocols for the efficient use of gold catalysts is essential for the development of sustainable industrial processes.
In this thesis, dosed tablet-based catalyst systems have been developed to increase the efficiency of gold (I) NHC complexes and develop effective utilization processes. In the first of the two different systems developed within the scope of the thesis, tablet catalyst systems that can work in water / methanol environment and have the capacity to form micelles in nano size were developed by using non-ionic surfactants as tablet base material. In the second system, poly(dimethylsiloxane) compound, which is biocompatible and inert in the solid phase, was used as the main tablet body to develop reusable catalysts that can be separated from the reaction medium in the solid phase. Both developed tablet systems showed high reusability and stability in hydration reactions of alkyne compounds. In addition, low cost, accessible and easy to store tablet systems have been introduced to the literature by enabling the dosing of gold(I) complexes in the order of micrograms.
