This research is aimed to reveal the demands of women's organizations in the history of the women's movement in Turkey from the social work profession and their experiences regarding these demands.
Within the theoretical framework of the research, the history of the women's movement, the institutionalization of the women's movement, social work practices and theories in the context of social movements, macro social work studies and social work practices that can be applied in the context of the women's movement are included.
The research was conducted using qualitative design and phenomenological approach. In this direction, 8 women who actively participated in decision-making mechanisms for at least one year in women's organizations in Ankara and Istanbul, which were established between 1990 and 2000, were interviewed. The women's organizations in which the participants took part; Flying Broom Foundation, Mor Çatı Women's Shelter Foundation, Women for Women’s Human Rıghts-New Ways, The Women’s Library and Information Centre Foundation, Türk Kadınlar Birliği, World March of Women and The Foundation for Women’s Solidarity. In the interviews, a semi-structured interview form prepared by the researcher was used. The data collection process was carried out with online interviews in line with the requests of the participants due to the Covid 19 pandemic.
According to the findings and results reached within the scope of the research, the women's movement sees the institutions within the social work system and the social work profession as a holistic mechanism in meeting the demands they have created for women throughout its history in Turkey. In the period from the 1990s to the present, the women's movement has resorted to various methods and developed relationships in order to use social work mechanisms. Within the scope of the obtained results, suggestions were developed at micro, mezzo and macro levels.
