A survey was conducted with 160 people in Sincan F Type High Security Prison, Sincan L type Closed Prison and Sincan Open prison in order to determine the socioeconomic factors that affecting adult criminality and to investigate the reliability of criminological theories in terms of explaining motivations of criminals. The survey includes 127 questions that are prepared within the framework of Social Control Theory, Social Learning Theory, Strain Theory, Social Disorganization Theory, Relative Deprivation Theory, Deterrence Theory and Economic Theory of Crime. Social control theory, social learning theory, strain theory and economic theory of crime were found to be valid in explaining property crime. It was also found that individual features are illustrative in explaining violent crime.
