Turc 292 Yazmasında Yer Alan ve Ali Ufkî Bey Tarafından Makamları Belirtilmiş Uşşâk- Hüseynî Ailesine Ait Sözlü Eserlerin Makam ve Mod Yapılarının İncelenmesi

Abstract

Music manuscripts written by Ali Ufkî Bey contain important information and clues about XVIIth century music. It is possible to analyze these pieces of information and clues, and make some inferences through detailed makam examination. The manuscript numbered Turc 292 registered in the National Library of France was chosen as the focus of this approach. From this manuscript, 20 vocal works within the Uşşâk-Hüseynî makam group, whose makams were specified by Ali Ufkî Bey, selected and the related makam/melody structures were analyzed. This analysis revealed modal/melody structures in some works. Examples of Hungarian Folk Music similar to these modal, melodic structures are also presented in this study. In addition, suggestions derived from detailed makam/melody analysis are presented regarding Ali Ufkî Bey's rationale in naming those makams. Finally, attention is drawn to the importance of being aware of the music of the neighboring geoculture while examining the works of the relevant period.
