Süslü Arslan, S., Effects of Different Mouth Rinses on the Color Stability and Surface Roughness of Enamel and Different Restorative Materials. Hacettepe University, Faculty of Dentistry, Department of Restorative Dentistry, Specialization Thesis, Ankara, 2022. The aim of this in vitro study was to examine the effects of 4 different mouthwashes (Listerine Advanced White, Listerine Total Care, Meridol, Oral-B Pro-Expert) on the color stability and surface roughness on human enamel and 4 different restorative materials (Ceram.x SphereTEC™one, nanoceramic; Tetric EvoCeram, nanohybrid; Filtek Ultimate, nanofill; EQUIA Forte HT Fil, glass hybrid restorative system). A total of 240 (10x2 mm) cylindirical discs were prepared from the restorative materials (n=60 per group). Sixty extracted upper permanent central incisors were cut 1-2 mm apical to the enamel-cementum junction and the crowns were placed on acrylic blocks with their buccal surfaces on top. Five groups prepared from restorative materials and human enamel were divided into 5 subgroups (n=12): Group I: Enamel; Ia : Enamel + Distiled water, Ib: Enamel + Listerine Advanced White, Ic: Enamel + Listerine Total Care, Id: Enamel + Meridol , Ie: Enamel + Oral-B Pro-Expert; Group II: Ceram.x SphereTECTM one composite (Dentsply Sirona); IIa: Ceram.x SphereTECTM one + Distilled water, IIb: Ceram.x SphereTECTM one + Listerine Advanced White, IIc: Ceram.x SphereTECTM one + Listerine Total Care, IId: Ceram.x SphereTECTM one + Meridol, IIe: Ceram.x SphereTECTM one + Oral-B Pro-Expert; Group III: Filtek Ultimate composite (3M ESPE); IIIa: Filtek Ultimate + Distilled water, IIIb: Filtek Ultimate + Listerine Advanced White, IIIc: Filtek Ultimate + Listerine Total Care, IIId: Filtek Ultimate + Meridol, IIIe: Filtek Ultimate + Oral-B Pro-Expert; Group IV: Tetric EvoCeram Bulk Fill composite (İvoclar vivadent); IVa: Tetric EvoCeram Bulk Fill + Distilled water, IVb: Tetric EvoCeram Bulk Fill + Listerine Advanced White, IVc: Tetric EvoCeram Bulk Fill + Listerine Total Care, IVd: Tetric EvoCeram Bulk Fill + Meridol, IVe: Tetric EvoCeram Bulk Fill + Oral-B Pro-Expert; Group V: EQUIA Forte HT Fil glass hybrid restorative system (GC Corp.); Va: EQUIA Forte HT Fil + Distilled water, Vb: EQUIA Forte HT Fil + Listerine Advanced White, Vc: EQUIA Forte HT Fil + Listerine Total Care, Vd: EQUIA Forte HT Fil + Meridol, Ve: EQUIA Forte HT Fil + Oral-B Pro-Expert). After the specimens were kept in distilled water at 37°C for 24 hours, color measurement was made using a spectrophotometer (VITA Easyshade Advance) and surface roughness was measured using a profilometer (Mahr Perthometer M2) and the WID indices were calculated. Each specimen was then subjected to 20 ml mouthwash for 12 hours (equivalent to using mouthwash twice a day for 1 year) and the solutions were shaken every 3 hours. At the end of this period, color and surface roughness measurements were repeated. Data were analysed using two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), three-way mixed analysis of variance (ANOVA) and the SPSS (The Statistical Package for The Social Sciences) 23 program. The results were evaluated at the p<0.05 significance level. The interaction between the specimens and mouthwashes was statistically significant for ΔE00 (p<0.001). In the Listerine Total Care, Listerine Advanced White and Meridol, the highest color change was observed in enamel and then Ceram.X, while Tetric EvoCeram, Filltek Ultimate and EQUIA Forte HT Fil exposed to Oral-B Pro-Expert exhibited higher color changes than the other groups. For all mouthwashes; the highest ΔWID values were seen in the Tetric EvoCeram, while the lowest ΔWID values were seen in the EQUIA Forte HT Fil and enamel. The lowest surface roughness value was obtained in enamel, while the highest surface roughness value was obtained in EQUIA Forte HT Fil. Mouthwashes tested affected the color and surface rouhgness of restorative materials and enamel differenly.
