Reproduction of Dependency: The Customs Union Between Turkey and the European Union

Customs Union, one of the phases of International Economic Integration, has had a deepimpact on Turkish economy. The same Customs Union, established between Turkey and theEuropean Union, has become a mechanism of not accepting Turkey as a full member in the EUin the process of time. If we look at the economic relations between Turkey and the EU in thelight of dependency theory, we can see that an unequal development and a dependencyrelationship to the detriment of Turkey has deepened and become widespread. The integrationbetween Turkey and the EU should be evaluated as an example in terms of an economicrelationship between the core and the semi-peripheral formations, i.e. an integration betweeneconomies having different development levels.
