A large part of tengible and intengible elements that make up the culture are enternatinment environments. Most of the traditions, customs, beliefs and rituals which are the most important elements of cultural formation, are shaped in the entertainment environments. Tales, epics, anectodes and riddles, dances, songs and folk songs are indispensable components of the such ambients and these components play a majör role in the preservation and transmission of culture and maintenance of the social order. In many regions of Anatolia, these activities, which are known by names such as Yâren Gecesi, Sıra Gecesi, Gezek, Ferfene, Oda Sohbeti, may not all be for entertainment purposes. These activities can also include philosophical conversations and moral doctrines. In Konya, this entertainment and conversation environment appears as “Oturak Âlemi”. This folk culture can be associated with the Ahi Tradition in Anatolia. Ahi Tradition has important contributions in the preservation and transmission of culture as well as maintaining the social order. Ahilik, which has its own principles and rules, is a tradition where good morality, righteousness, brotherhood, in short, all good virtues come together. At the same time, it can be considered as a system based on literature, music, traditions and customs. In this context, Ahilik including music, dance and literature can be associated with the Oturak Âlemi, which aims the transfer culture by keeping our values such as love, respectfulness, responsibility, helpfulness, trust, indulgence and patience alive. In Konya Oturak culture, that is the subject of the research, in addition to conversation and entertainment, music performance is at the forefont and more prominent. The folk songs performed are generally belongs to Konya region and these folk songs are listed in a certain logical flow.
In this study, it is aimed to analyze the folk songs peculiar to the region by considering the content and characteristics of Konya Oturak Âlemi. In this context, the study is consists of five chapters. In the first chapter titled as “General Situation and Cultural Features of Konya; the history, geographical location, climate and food culture of the city of Konya are discussed. Konya entertainment culture is evaluated in Chapter 2 and Konya Folk Music Culture, which also includes the Oturak Âlemi, has been examined in Chapter 3. In the next chapter Oturak Âlemi, that is the title of the thesis, and its components are handled and musical analyzes of Oturak Folk Songs are made in the last chapter. It has been revealed from the research that music performance is at the forefront and more prominent besides the conversation and entertainment in the Konya Oturak Âlemi. It has been determined that the most of the folk songs performed in these conversations are Konya folk songs belonging to the region. It has been observed that the examined and notated folk songs differ in terms of rhythm pattern with the notes in the sources.
