Cartography, which begins with the desire to locate, describe and plan the region where humankind lives; It is one of the sectors that rapidly develops and changes in line with today's technology and whose product catalog is constantly renewed. Today, one of the important gains that technology brings to our lives is smart phones. Smart phones and the applications on these phones affect our business life as well as our daily life. While creating new sectors with these applications; some sectors that cannot keep up with technological development are also completing their lifetime. Smart phones add new perspectives to the cartography profession and related sectors with the technological features they have gained. Smartphones are particularly rapidly replacing single-frequency GNSS receivers known as handheld GNSS receivers. This study aims to

investigate the usability of the positional data provided by some applications using GPS sensors in smartphones in some mapping sectors or sub-sectors that require the use of a hand-held GNSS receiver. The study also offers solutions by investigating whether the accuracy and precision provided by GPS-based applications in smartphones are sufficient for the usage areas and sectors. In this study, the temporal change of location data technology in mobile devices is also included. In addition, it is desired to create a prediction that mobile devices will come to produce location data in the future. Among the aims of the study: Analyzing the working principles of GPS / GNSS applications in smartphones, it is also included to determine the factors affecting the location information obtained by smartphones. By taking these factors into consideration, it can be contributed to the development of new applications and erroneous measurements can be prevented in areas where the same factors are observed.
